Evaluating the Effect of Orlistat Administration on Depressive Behavior in Mice Following Inducing Depression by Water Avoidance Stress Model

Introduction: The weight-loss drugs can induce depression. Orlistat is one of the common drugs, but preclinical studies about its effect on mood have not been performed. aim this study was evaluating orlistat alone and following inducing stress mice depressive behavior.
 Methods: In fundamental-applied study, male white (27±2 g), in six groups having 7 animals were used. administered orally imipramine (positive control) injected intraperitonealy daily, depression induced by water avoidance (WAS) model during 14 days. activity evaluated Locomotor Activity Test, assessed measuring immobility time forced swimming test (FST), food consumption novelty suppressed feeding (NSFT), sucrose preference test.
 Results: (25 mg/kg) did change locomotor activity. Stress increased duration compared to control group (98±2.2 seconds, P<0.001). difference between insignificant, orlistat-WAS WAS also insignificant (P>0.05). results latency with insignificant. (69/8 %). Imipramine reduced behavior mice.
